"I am passionate about working wth my clients to help them feel better, get better and enjoy their lives. I love how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other treatment modalities can make a big difference for many people. Therapy is not a quick-fix, but with effort and consistency, you can work to change your life for the better."

I offer a form of therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is a very effective form of therapy. Along with using CBT to work on thoughts and behaviors, I may also work with you on areas such as assertiveness, communication skills, Mindfulness skills, and relaxation skills. Sessions are conducted in a safe, professional, and supportive environment. My clients have consistently told me that I am a very good active listener, am compassionate, care about them and work hard to help them overcome their challenges.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used form of treatment for depression, anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, sleep disturbance, weight loss and many other issues. CBT has been found to be effective in a large number of research studies, including studies conducted by the National Institute of Health, universities and medical centers throughout the country. CBT has been researched more heavily than any other form of psychotherapy and is considered by experts to be one of the most useful and effective therapies available.

CBT is an action-oriented and goal-oriented treatment that helps you learn specific ways to identify and change irrational, negative thinking and to use effective coping strategies to solve your problems. The therapeutic process is very collaborative. You and I work together as a team to spot irrational thinking and behavior and to reverse troubling symptoms. Because therapy works best if CBT skills are put into action repeatedly in daily life, self-help exercises and other "homework" are an important part of the treatment process.

How it works

It all starts with a phone call. First, you would contact me and briefly describe the reasons you are seeking counseling services. If it is determined that there is a good match, we will set up your first appointment.

During your first session, an evaluation will be conducted. This includes background information about where you were born, family information, education, marital history, medical history, current symptoms and current challenges. During that session, goals will be set for the course of treatment, recommendations made, and the frequency of visits will be determined.

Confidentiality

As a licensed clinician, I have an ethical responsibility to protect and maintain the confidentiality of your information. As a general rule, I do not discuss your information with anyone unless I have your prior written consent. There are some exceptions to this that will be discussed prior to your first session.

**Please note, if you pay for your sessions through your health insurance, your insurance requires detailed confidential information about you and your mental health status before they will consider payment of that claim.

Phone Sessions

The majority of sessions are conducted in-person at my San Antonio office. For some people, phone sessions are beneficial, appropriate and a more viable option given their schedule (this can be done through Skype-like or “regular” phone). This is an option that is available depending upon the reasons you are seeking counseling and if it still offers you a high level of care. We can discuss this option during your initial visit if you have an interest.

Payment Options

I work predominately on a private pay option. I am currently a provider on one insurance panel - BC/BS – PPO. You will want to call your insurance to get an authorization for treatment. They will usually give you an authorization number. You will want to ask them about your deductible and co-pay.

You are usually able to use Out of Network benefits if you are wanting to use insurance and I am not on your insurance panel.

Many of my clients choose to pay private pay to maintain the confidentiality of their information. If you use your insurance, I am required to submit your personal information, in some cases your records, to your insurance company.
